Welcome to the official homepage for the Albany County Legislature. The Legislature is composed of 39 diverse legislative districts across Albany County. 

As an established female leadership team, we are honored to lead our body as Chairwoman and Deputy Chairwoman of the Albany County Legislature. 

The Albany County Legislature serves as the County's policy-making body. It is the responsibility of the Albany County Legislature to enact policies to benefit the residents in every community in Albany County from the urban and suburban centers, rural areas and small communities.

We want to hear from you about your concerns, ideas and questions as we diligently work to advance sound policy and positive change throughout Albany County.

Albany County COVID-19 Small Business Grant Program

The grant fund is the largest created in the Capital Region to help those heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The County has awarded 132 grants of up to $5,000 to small businesses in Albany County.

Blight to Betterment Task Force:
2021 Legislative Report

In June 2020, Legislature Chairman Andrew Joyce convened the Blight to Betterment Task Force to address issues of vacant properties and formulate a roadmap to return blighted land to functional, productive use.

Legislative Public Hearing

William J. Conboy II Legislative Chambers (remote option available)

Public hearing on proposed Local Law No. “B” for 2023, providing real property tax exemptions for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.

This meeting will be held IN PERSON, with the option to watch live on YouTube or participate remotely via Zoom

  • If you come in person, please be prepared to follow current COVID guidelines.
  • You can watch our hearings live on our YouTube channel.

If you would like to participate via Zoom:

  • You must pre-register with the Clerk (see below). 
  • County residents will be taken first.
  • Speakers may be allowed up to five minutes to express their views.

Pre-registration closes at 12 Noon on the day of the hearing.

Please send an email to publichearings@albanycountyny.gov with the following information:

  • Your name, address and phone number
    Your name and municipality will be made public (e.g., "Jane Doe, Cohoes, NY"), the rest of your information will remain private.
  • Confirmation that you have access to Zoom
  • The Public Hearing you would like to speak at and a statement you would like read in lieu of formal participation.
    • You may sign up for multiple Public Hearings, if time allows.
    • Please limit the length any written statements to allow for the participation of others.
    • All written statements will be given to members, regardless of length. 
  • The Clerk or a member of our staff will contact you with the information for you to connect.
