The Office was created to represent eligible people where a conflict of interest prevents the Albany County Public Defender's Office from representing them. To that end, this Office represents people in both criminal and family court cases at each and every proceeding, including hearings, trials, and sentencing proceedings.

This Office also represents people in post-conviction proceedings, such as direct appeals to the Third Department, Appellate Division and the Court of Appeals, motions to vacate convictions pursuant to CPL 440, applications to seal criminal convictions and proceedings under the Sex Offender Registration Act ("SORA").
