In 1995 The Albany County Legislature adopted local law No. 6 providing a program for the Installment Payment of Eligible delinquent property taxes.
A Taxpayer who enters into an installment payment agreement must comply with the following requirements:
- The delinquent taxes must be paid in monthly payments;
- The term of the Agreement may be up to but not exceed 2 years (24 months) and ending not later than the last day of redemption;
- A minimum down payment of 10% of the delinquent tax is mandatory; and
- Such other terms and conditions as set forth in Albany County Local Law Section 1184.
Example: Agreement is in default if current taxes are left unpaid and are returned to the County. There is a 5% late charge on any Installment received by the County more than 15 days after due. If more than one parcel is delinquent then all parcels must be put on an agreement.
The County encourages any eligible taxpayers to consider the installment payment plan. The plan helps property owners avoid foreclosure while it helps reduce the time and effort that the County must spend to enforce tax liens.
