The County is committed to working with local municipalities, stakeholders, and the public throughout the project to ensure the Climate Resiliency Plan:

• builds on local knowledge, needs, and related initiatives;
• prioritizes public safety;
• balances economic development and conservation-oriented goals; and
• proactively identifies a complementary suite of projects and strategies to increase the County’s resilience to future flood events and climate change.

Over the course of the next year, the County will be working closely with municipalities and stakeholders to develop the Albany County Climate Resiliency Plan by

• Leveraging existing planning efforts and initiatives (e.g., the Albany County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, the Albany County Strategic Economic Development Plan, and the County Sustainability Policy);
• Facilitating a robust community engagement effort over the course of the project to establish a unified Resilience Vision for the County, identify local needs, and prioritize proposed projects;
• Developing a countywide asset inventory, including economic, infrastructure, recreation, historic/cultural, and social assets;
• Conducting a risk assessment to better understand how natural hazards (e.g., sea level rise, storm surges, pluvial and fluvial flooding, drought, extreme heat) may impact these assets in the future;
• Identifying strategies and projects to improve the County’s resilience; and,
• Creating an action plan to implement the proposed projects.
