Since 1995, the Sheriff's Office has operated an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Unit to provide a wide range of care for the residents of Albany County. Teamed with local ambulances and fire departments, our paramedics and EMTs provide advanced and basic life support first response and ambulance transport for a population of nearly seventy five thousand people in six different communities. We are the primary EMS coverage for the Town of Rensselaerville, Village of Voorheesville, and the New Salem area. With our unique partnership with Delmar-Bethlehem EMS we staff 6 Paramedics and 5 EMT’s per shift, and answer more than 6000 calls annually.
As one of the leading agencies in the region (2014 regional and state agency of the year), the EMS unit teams lifesaving treatments (such as intubation, IV medications, and defibrillation) with highly trained professionals to ensure fast and critical care is available, twenty four hours a day. In addition to responding to 911 calls, the EMS unit provides personnel to support other specialty teams with the Sheriff's Office, such as the Search and Rescue Team (SRT) and Emergency Response Team (ERT).
